Congratulations!

My sister graduated from UC Davis this month and I kept up our tradition of making each other a lei from ribbon.  I opted for a less intensive and meticulous method for this lei compared to the one I made for her high school graduation.  My sister is headed to a PhD program on the East Coast, which means at least one more ribbon lei in her future.  As for me, I may find myself in a graduate program somewhere down the road, but if I don't, my sister is off the hook for making another lei.

A two-step process, this ribbon lei began as a woven strand of blue, white and yellow ribbon.  I actually learned how to weave the ribbon from a mother of a random player while sitting around at a soccer tournament in high school.  I do enjoy when my interests seem to cross paths.  Once woven together, needle and thread brought the sides together to form a spiraling tube of ribbon.  Pulling the thread tight created the helical body of the lei.  A couple of ribbon "yo-yos" combine to bring the ends together and finish of the lei.  Congrats!

  1. Her lei looks great!!

I still have the ribbon lei you made me for my UCLA graduation. :) I was really disappointed when I forgot to bring it to my graduation. =/ I suppose I can wear it to my USC MAT graduation in May even though it's blue and gold. :P
