My roommate took her final set of medical board exams this week and we threw her a surprise party to celebrate.  After studying almost every waking hour for weeks on end, she was quite surprised to find her closest friends waiting to celebrate with her.  On a random rainy day in June, we set up a carnitas taco bar and decorated our living room for the occasion.  With leftover streamers to use, I set out to make a congratulations banner to run across the room.  With a busy week at work and a deadline the same day, this is the banner that resulted.

Using Microsoft Publisher, I printed each sheet of paper with the outline of each letter and template lines to cut along for the penant shape.  During my lunch hour, I began filling in each letter with my box of sharpies.  Most of the geometric patterns resemble patterns seen in my doodling work, like the concentric circles in the letter "n".  I completed the first 6 letters during lunch and quickly decided to shorten my sign from "congratulations" to "congrats", which conveniently fit the space better than I imagined.  The banner and streamers still fill my living room, so we'll see how long we keep the happy colors around.
